What are hydraulic tools?

Hydraulic power tools are used for the transmission of power by pressurized liquids. Examples of hydraulic tools include jacks, presses, and impact wrenches.

How do they work? 

Power is transmitted by the controlled circulation of pressurized fluid,, usually a water-soluble oil of water-glycol mixture, to a moto that converts it into a mechanical output capable of doing work on a load.

What safety precautions do you need to take? 

Wear safety goggles and maybe coveralls whilst using hydraulic tools.

Make sure connections and hoses are properly connected and have no leaks or splits.

Ensure there is no damage done to tools before use.

Check that the area is clear of hazards.

How do you maintain them?

Brush and wipe clean connections before use with a fiber brush.

A mains powered tool is a tools which is used via cable in wall (Mains) with the advantage of not needing to recharge batteries or running out of power in the midst of working.

In a workshop, at home or in a work environment.

What to look for….

- Keep any flammable liquids or materials away from the working area.

If something goes wrong in the work environment it is suggested to report, assess and/or replace the damage

• Making sure the cord isn't a tripping hazzard
• Never carry a tool by the cord
• Keep all cords away from heating, any liquids, or sharp edges
• Follow the proper instructions for the tool in use 
• Treat all tools as if they're plugged in
• Check there are no splits in the rubber casing for the cord which creates a safety hazard due to bare wires. 
• Check that the outer covers of the tool are not damaged

What is meant by “RCD” Why is it important

An RCD is a residual current device, an Rcd can prevent you from getting a major electric shock if you touch something such as a bare live wire. It can also help prevent electrical fires. 

An RCD switches off the power source to power tools when there is a fault. It works by identifying current flowing through an abnormal path, as if someone has touched a live wire, the RCD then switches off to stop the risk of serious injury or death.

 

What is meant by “Double Insulation” Why is it important

A double insulated RCD ensures greater protection because it consists of an extra layer of insulation over the basic insulation.

Safety checks and safe working practices when using a mains-powered tool

• Ensure that the connections with tools are correctly in place.
• Inspect the tool for any damaging 
• After the use of a device, ensure that it is switched off and the is no power going through 
• Make sure that other workers are aware of where the tool is sourced so they don't trip or unplug it
• Be aware of your surroundings that could potentially cause you to harm yourself or knock something over

Hazards and dangers of extension cords

• Tripping hazard - Check that the cord is not looped up or in the way. 
• Visibility - Ensure that the electric cord is visible for others to see and isn't running into anyone way
• Too much power - Make sure that there aren't too many power tools plugged into an outlet that cannot handle the high wattage 
• Plugging in - Make sure the plugs are the prongs of the cord isn't exposed if it is plugged into an outlet

 SHOULD PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS BE ALLOWED IN SPORTS?

I disagree with drugs being accepted in sports. My reasons are; the unfair benefits on those who are under the influence of drugs, harmful effects (some permanent other long-lasting) on their health and well-being, and it may also encourage younger audiences to use illegal substances.

It is unethical for sportsmen or woman who are not under the impact of the drugs rivalled to those who are under the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout the competition. Remedies such as steroids found in testing of athletes can increase your muscle mass and strength. The unfairness of the illicit drugs has been shown through when Valerie Adams came second place in Olympic shotput because of her opponent using performance-enhancing drugs.

Olympic competitors and other elite sportsmen and women are earning up to tens of millions of dollars a year - even per event. Most athletes of this level earn their success through sheer determination and working their way up the ranks through talent and skill. Whereas athletes who take steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, they gain the aid of their illegal supplements to carry them through the ranks and get further along the lines of competitions. It is unfair to those who need not take illegal performance-enhancing drugs to succeed in a sport and put against those who have taken the drugs.

Supposedly, there may be some advantages to introducing similar kinds of drugs to your system, but there are also downfalls such as the consequences on your health and well-being. These effects consist of severe acne and oily hair and skin, heart disease, liver disease, and altered moods -easier irritability, increased aggression, depression or suicidal tendencies-.

With the allowance of these prohibited drugs in sports being allowed, it may influence the audience to experiment with other drugs. For example, younger teenagers may think it is permitted to use drugs because their parents or other influencers they know are using them legally. 

They should not allow drugs in sports due to the unfair advantages on those who take part in sports without the side effects of performance-enhancing drugs.

Colour: The grey background symbolises maturity to go with the immature joke. The grey also helps the black font stand out.

Proportion: The Lettering of the D_ICK is a lot larger than the rest of the text and images on the picture to make it the main focus to catch your attention.

Dominant Image: The dominant image in this is the D_CK text due to the size and the placing within being between the centre and top third of the screen.

Empty Space: White (Empty) space helps highlight the text and images throughout the poster and make them more vivid and noticeable and just to draw more attention towards them.

INTRO: At the start of the year we had to design our own drink bottle with a filter, from here we were then given the brief to show three different materials for a potential client.

I liked it because it gave me the chance to get better at rendering and giving detail to my bottle. 

I didn't like it because it was constantly rendering and nothing else.

What is Pathos, Ethos, and Logos.

Ethos, pathos and logos are techniques of persuasion that form the rhetorical triangle. A compelling argument, sales pitch, speech, or commercial ideally uses elements of all three strategies. 

Ethos is the persuasive technique that appeals to an audience by highlighting credibility. Ethos advertisement techniques invoke the superior “character” of a speaker, presenter, writer, or brand.

Art Portfolio L.1

In Art I am developing a portfolio of my artworks I have made throughout the year, I am mainly liking Salvador Dali and Jacob Yikes's work and i am inspired and basing my work off theirs. My art works will vary from wet media, dry media and digital.

 (S) The music in “Walk the line” by “James Mangold”  changed drastically throughout the film. (E) This is demonstrated when at the start of the film Johnny Cash’s
Music is slow and sounds slightly depressing and from there turns into a faster pace more lively speed. Songs that could be used as an example is when he first sings “Folsom prison blues” for the first time at the recording studio and with it being slower-paced compared to  “Get rhythm”  and how its a lot more upbeat. (X) This makes us understand that Johnny is passionate about music and really wants a chance at getting big through it so he needed to change the tempo of which he was playing at, at first. (X)

                                           Have not done directors purpose just yet.

(X) The upbeat faster music coincided with the use of amphetamine Johnny had started and gotten addicted to. Before taking the drugs johnny had seemed depressed but whilst being on the drug he seemed more happy and alive as his career grew and he became more dependant on the use of amphetamine which still ended up with him in a depressed state from withdrawals of the drug. (Y)

This aspect can be compared to lighting and how the lighting changed as he induced the amphetamine and the space around him had changed with his mind from the usage of amphetamine.

English - Creative Writing

The gym. Closed for the day, soon to be opened. Training gear, organized and stacked nicely from the previous class. The floor padding, clean and sweat-free after being clean just hours before. From within the everlasting silence of the closed gym, the sound of the water droplets from the tap drumming against the steel sink, the echoing tick of a clock striking second by second, the roar of the nearby cars outside driving by and the hum of chatter from the sidewalk. The eye-watering smell of bleach, the subtle hint of Dettol throughout the gym mats and walls, the sour smell of old sweat and the faint smell of leftover protein. People are about to enter the gym and begin their night of training they're all in a rush to get to the gym in time so they can have the chance to stretch and warm-up before the session starts. Some are worried, some are not as worried.

The gym has now opened and there is a light hum on chatter, people greeting each other and choosing who to train with for the session, water running as people fill their drink bottles to guzzle throughout the night, the grunts as people stretch, the sounds of people pounding and bashing the boxing bags as if they're their opponents. But the loudest thing in the gym is the retch-worthy smell of feet throughout the gym. There is a contagious amped or enthusiastic sort of feeling being passed around the members of the gym.

Training time. People bashing pads and draining all their energy trying to get the sequence correct and to avoid punches and throw counter punches whilst still getting footwork and technique correct. The floor pads drenched with sweat from the exhausted members.  The hiss of people exhaling while hitting the pads, the pants of exhaustion within breaks of sequences, people shouting as they encourage other members to push themselves further and to continue even though they're tired and exhausted, the sound of water gushing and people quickly refill their bottles to quench their thirst and to rehydrate themselves. What Is My Art Kaupapa

This year I will be making my kaupapa around the themes of environment and surrealism.

I have chosen themes because my teacher said about my artworks and environmental stuff and I like Salvador Dali's artwork so I chose surrealism.

THUD…. Blood, lots of blood. Pain, pain directed to the centre of my face. The pain you wouldn’t describe as sore, but worse. I was in the middle of a luscious green coated field of grass training for softball. We were focusing on catching the ball my turn was coming up.

As the person in front of me had the ball thrown to them they ducked unexpectedly then BAM...I got hit. Square in the nose. Many waves of pain struck my face at different levels. As the minutes passed the blood didn’t stop half an hour come by and it was still bleeding.

Are movies better than books?? In my opinion yes, there are many reasons as to why they are such as the fact that they; take less time, they're a lot more interesting and they're good for if you can't read and they also add more effects to make scenes and scenarios more effective examples of this would be in comedies and horrors.

Movies take a lot less time to watch than a book does to read whereas a book can take multiple days or weeks and a movie will take a few hours. Books such as the harry potter collection can take multiple days or weeks depending on how fast you read or how much free time you have but with the movie, it takes around 2 hours.

Words are boring to me so I prefer to watch movies and see what's happening rather than finding out myself. With movies there is a lot more detail. An example of this would be instead of saying how Billy was bouncing with excitement, in movies, it can show how exaggerated his excitement was. Or how in books they use the word slash for cutting and there are all types of slashes; slashes that's deep slash that barely skimmed someone or slashed someone in half. But they don't specify these slashes, in movies you see these differences.

 Are Team sports better than individual sports? I think that they are both equally as good since in Team sports you can meet new people and you learn how to communicate and make strategies.
But in Individual sports, you can learn to be more individual by thinking of strategies and other things yourself.

 Team sports such as rugby or NFL can improve your mental wellbeing by talking to others and relieving yourself of your stress instead of keeping things to yourself and having no one to tell it to, exercise helps with this too.

 In Team sports you can meet new people, by meeting new people you can make friendships which could go on for a long time in some cases the rest of your life, for instance, we can use my English teacher who got to know his wife better through touch rugby.

 You also learn how to communicate with others and find out ways to overcome challenges as a team and find ways which work and ways that don't. An example of strategies we could use the NFL and how they make certain team formations for the sort of play they would like to make.

I think that the south island roads are no better than the north island's roads

I agree that both the north and the south island has reasonably good roads, I have a few ideas as to why they're both good in my opinion; The north island has nicer roads from what I've seen as an example the potholes and roads are repaired much quicker than in the south island.


and the scenery in the south island is better in my opinion due to less industrial or business areas and at the moment there are also fewer earthquakes in the south island too.

History has no value in present-day society.

I think that historic buildings have no value in present-day society because of the fact that they don't have much use, yea sure they can be used for movie sets or education, they are a waste of space and could be used for houses or made into farmland and fields, possibly for sports but the land could also be used as a habitat for animals.

I believe that the land used for these historic buildings have no use due to the fact they aren't really used for anything besides education or movie sets and what's the use behind the education anyway? Jobs that'll get you preeeeetty much nowhere in life.

If the buildings get removed the land could be used for newer and better houses or other buildings such as industrial buildings and businesses too. This could lead to more money and also tourism.

Science - Egg drop competition

In science, our task is to create some sort of construction to secure an egg that will be dropped 8 metres high off of the learning commons stairs. The materials I used were only layers of newspapers crunched up around the egg.
Outcome: Many groups were successful as mine was one of them. It landed with light impact and survived.
