Risk or Challenge Creative Writing

THUD…. Blood, lots of blood. Pain, pain directed to the centre of my face. The pain you wouldn’t describe as sore, but worse. I was in the middle of a luscious green coated field of grass training for softball. We were focusing on catching the ball my turn was coming up.

As the person in front of me had the ball thrown to them they ducked unexpectedly then BAM...I got hit. Square in the nose. Many waves of pain struck my face at different levels. As the minutes passed the blood didn’t stop half an hour come by and it was still bleeding.

40 Min Writing: Movies Are Better Than Book

Movies are better than books

Arguing for movies being better

Points
Takes less time to watch a movie instead of reading a book
More interesting
help visualise
Good if you have dyslexia and/or can't read
adds more effects (eg. comedy, horror

Are movies better than books?? In my opinion yes, there are many reasons as to why they are such as the fact that they; take less time, they're a lot more interesting and they're good for if you can't read and they also add more effects to make scenes and scenarios more effective examples of this would be in comedies and horrors.

Movies take a lot less time to watch than a book does to read whereas a book can take multiple days or weeks and a movie will take a few hours. Books such as the harry potter collection can take multiple days or weeks depending on how fast you read or how much free time you have but with the movie, it takes around 2 hours.

Words are boring to me so I prefer to watch movies and see what's happening rather than finding out myself. With movies there is a lot more detail. An example of this would be instead of saying how Billy was bouncing with excitement, in movies, it can show how exaggerated his excitement was. Or how in books they use the word slash for cutting and there are all types of slashes; slashes that's deep slash that barely skimmed someone or slashed someone in half. But they don't specify these slashes, in movies you see these differences.

40 min persuasive writing

Team sports are better than individual sports
arguing both

Team sports. strategy, communication and meet new people at times.

individual sports. works on strategy and learning to be individual by thinking and doing things by yourself.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Are Team sports better than individual sports? I think that they are both equally as good since in Team sports you can meet new people and you learn how to communicate and make strategies.
But in Individual sports, you can learn to be more individual by thinking of strategies and other things yourself.

Team sports such as rugby or NFL can improve your mental wellbeing by talking to others and relieving yourself of your stress instead of keeping things to yourself and having no one to tell it to, exercise helps with this too.

In Team sports you can meet new people, by meeting new people you can make friendships which could go on for a long time in some cases the rest of your life, for instance, we can use my English teacher who got to know his wife better through touch rugby.

You also learn how to communicate with others and find out ways to overcome challenges as a team and find ways which work and ways that don't. An example of strategies we could use the NFL and how they make certain team formations for the sort of play they would like to make.

40 min writing: The south island roads are better than the north island roads

South: scenery (Eg: Less industrial areas ), fewer earthquakes

North: nicer roads (fewer potholes)

I think that the south island roads are no better than the north island's roads

I agree that both the north and the south island has reasonably good roads, I have a few ideas as to why they're both good in my opinion; The north island has nicer roads from what I've seen as an example the potholes and roads are repaired much quicker than in the south island.

and the scenery in the south island is better in my opinion due to less industrial or business areas and at the moment there are also fewer earthquakes in the south island too.

Persuasive Writing

History has no value in present-day society.

Agree: Waste of space/ Could be used for houses/ Made into farmland/ Fields/ Habitat for animals

Disagree: Can be used for movie sets/ Education/

I think that historic buildings have no value in present-day society because of the fact that they don't have much use, yea sure they can be used for movie sets or education, they are a waste of space and could be used for houses or made into farmland and fields, possibly for sports but the land could also be used as a habitat for animals.

I believe that the land used for these historic buildings have no use due to the fact they aren't really used for anything besides education or movie sets and what's the use behind the education anyway? Jobs that'll get you preeeeetty much nowhere in life.

If the buildings get removed the land could be used for newer and better houses or other buildings such as industrial buildings and businesses too. This could lead to more money and also tourism.

Detailed Sentences English

Exercise 1

From each set of words in brackets choose the one word or phrase which most effectively conveys the heat of the scene being pictured:

Beneath the frowning sun the land was brown. Blades of grass, shrivelled by the fierce rays, clung to the crumbling, scorched soil. Even to move was an effort. The slightest motion was enough to cause a sweat, but even perspiration was  forced away almost instantly by the merciless heat.

Exercise 2

Some words have been left out in the following sentences. From each group in brackets, choose the word or phrase that most effectively suggests the idea of noise.

1 Thunder rang off the mountains. The weeping of the wind as it blasted through the narrow valleys was almost drowned out by the drumming of huge raindrops on the rocky ground.

2 The clatter of broken glass woke him. He listened intently and heard the slight screech of a hinge as a door slowly opened. There was the faintest scrape of a shoe on the wooden floor of the hall.

She was startled at first by the harsh squawk of a sea gull. The distant murmur of the sea and the sigh of the gentle breeze through the palms lulled her.

Exercise 3

From each set of words in brackets choose the one word or phrase which most effectively conveys the scene being pictured:

Bright lights radiated amusingly through the evening darkness. The steady glow of the larger lights was reinforced by the sparkle of an array of cheerful smaller ones going after each other in a lively, never-ending race. The hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, and the aroma of steaming food all drifted enticingly across the still night air.

Exercise 4

Here is a short descriptive passage. From each group in brackets, choose the word or phrase that most effectively fills each gap. Bear in mind the impression the writer is trying to give.

The face, in the brief instant when the lightning glowed, was like some badly-done carving. The forehead was topped with a mass of hair which gleamed in the light. The lower part of the face was masked by a wild cluster of wiry beard. The eyes, deep-set under thick brows, twinkled evilly as they caught the light. Mark’s heart thrashed in fear at the sight. Lightning lit up again.

Stencils

In art, I have made a stencil that was meant to be a social symbol I decided to use the Nike logo as an example.

This is the stencil and a few testers I have done with it. I used a bellow to apply the paint to my stencil and I also used a sponge when I tried some different techniques.

I made a game where you had to be gentle with the Sphero or else it would make a noise which signals you have lost and then a red light comes on then the sphero makes alot of movement

Once you have finished creating your Tinkercad and it is ready to print you will need to export your file.
In the top right corner, you should see these options.
You need to click Export. Once you click export you should have these options show up.
From here you need to click download as a .STL file.
Load up UpStudio. Once you have opened UpStudio you should see this.
You will see some options on the Left side of your screen you will need to click the option on the bottom left of the screen and preheat your printer.
Once you have done this you are going to need to click the + icon and you should see something like this come up (without the lines and labels).

From here you need to click the insert 3d model option and insert your .STL file you saved before on Tinkercad then you are pretty much ready to print.

I will leave a link to a video for more in depth instructions if you would like them.

Manufacture of a metal drill gauage

Drill Gauge Revision Blog.
Last term for tech we had to create a drill gauge during this process I learnt many different things such as finding what a micrometre and vernier are and how to use them appropriately

What I found hard while creating my drill gauge is getting all the drill hole with appropriate and even spacing in between each other. I overcame this problem by using an Engineers square, a scribe and a ruler to measure the distance between each gap.

Something that I have learnt on this topic is how to use a micrometre and a vernier calliper in the correct way to get accurate measurements.

The tools we used are: Micrometer, Vernier Caliper, Engineer Square, Scribe, 300mm Rule, Centre Punch, Hammer and Odd Leg Calliper

MicrometreA micrometre is a tool used for the precise measurement of very small objects. A micrometre can measure the depth, length and thickness of whatever object fits between its anvil and spindle. How to use a micrometre video

Vernier: A Vernier calliper can be used to measure either the length of an object or depth of an object. The device consists of a main scale fitted with a jaw at one end and another jaw fitted with a vernier scale which moves over the main scale. How to use a vernier calliper video
Image result for how do you use a vernier
Engineer Square: A right angled piece of measuring equipment used to accurately measure right angles or straight lines.
Image result for engineer square Scribe: A scribe is a sharply tipped piece of equipment to mark out wood or metal to be cut.
Image result for scribe tool 300mm Rule: a specifically sized and marked sheet of stainless steel sheet used to measure perimeter and sizes of objects.
Image result for 300mm rule Centre punch: A sharp-tipped piece of metal used to create an indentation for while drilling the drill bit will not slip.
Image result for center punch tool Odd Legged Calliper: An odd legged calliper is a piece of equipment with a bent inward leg and a straight leg ending with a pointed tip used to scribe at a specified distance.
